Spice started DJ'ing in 1997. "I first started as a producer for BACK 2 BASICS back in 93/94, with Beats Back" For most people there natural progression is from raving to DJ'ing to producing, but not Spice. She started as a professional dancer back in 1989 at clubs like Quest, Helter Skelter, Jungle Fever and Dreamscape. "Being a dancer, you can see what people like, and I knew my next step had to be producing" Producing all started when she met the main man JASON BALL from Back 2 Basics in a club down London called Speed. "We were both out of town at the time, and we started talking...realising we were both from the same area we decided to work on a track at the studio's in Birmingham" Back in Birmingham, Spice with JB engineering created the track 'BEATS BACK' which had such a good response from many top DJ's. A remix by Spice was produced for Micky Finn, which later got released. When Spice was registering her name with MCPS, little did she realise that the 'Spice Girls' were later trying to register with the name 'Spice'. Which later resulted in them calling themselves 'Spice Girls'.
Over the years Spice has had many hits under different names on labels such as Back2Basics and Second Movement. "Beats Back, being the first release which I have produced..."
The music got to a stage, where Spice had no choice but to start DJ'ing. "The music inspired me so much, that I needed to express my-self through DJ'ing as well as producing"
1999 proved to be a very busy year for Spice, with her 'STEP OFF' being remixed by respected Drum and Bass giants DJ SS and JB. A four week radio tour was done covering the whole of the UK and Scotland, as well as doing guest spots and interviews on Internet radio, for worlwide broadcast.
As the only female resident @ the legendary MUSIC FIRST, things are certainly hotting up for Miss Spice. Her release 'DYNAMITE' was cained by, Grooverider, Storm, SS, Ray Keith, Hype, Zinc and Bailey.
"I love springing surprises with each release, I think at the time I made Dynamite, it was PMT week, but seriously, I love creativity and am always looking for that something. A new element that will give my track that Spice twist, which is what I'm getting known for".
Since Dj Spice's first production in 1994, 'Beats Back' things have rapidly progressed for her. With a phat discography under her belt and each release getting stronger, she has set her mark in the scene as a talented producer, this has led her to many outlets including television programmes, remixes on different labels and DJing throughout Europe (Slovakia, Italy, Holland, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland) and further afield in USA, Turkey, Bangkok, Japan spreading the B2B flavas.
2001 has seen her collaborate with JB & vocalist Dark Angel to create 3 Dimensions. 'This is a new spectrum for me, as I have never worked with a vocalist before, and Dark Angel is an exception. She is amazing both as a person and a vocalist'
The 3 Dimension crew released an ep of flava's back in April 2001 which caught the attention of Bryan G/Frost/Roni Size/Grooverider - all hammering their personal favourites from the ep.
Dynamite remix with It's Love on the flip side was Spice's next release on B2B which created a stir in the UK and America and was released at the end of August 2001.
After that Spice's collaboration with JB led to a December 2001 release with a track called KEMIKALS which again pushed her recognition as a female producer further up the drum and bass ladder. Following that Spice got her sticky paws on the massive classic 'REAL LOVE' which she remixed for the huge 'CLASSIC REMIXES VOL 2' series alongside TWISTED INDIVIDUAL / RAY KEITH / DJ HAZARD and was released in March 2002.
And now to the present, SPICE / JB / RONI SIZE & DARK ANGEL have collaborated on another vocal project. The massive 'ME MYSELF & I' is due for release on 23rd SEPTEMBER 2002. This has been smashing clubs worldwide for some time and now finaly gets its official release in the form of 2 x 12", the first 12" with the original mix and a bonus track called 'PARTY HARD' and the 2nd 12" with the RONI SIZE mix and a bonus track called 'BYE BYE'..
