ABOUT GOVERNMENT4000:

During the period that Serbia was ruled by S. Milosevic, Belgrade’s Student’s Cultural Center (SKC) started a radio station that promoted political party of Milosevic’s wife. There was no music concept and nobody listened that radio. After the political changes, the SKC radio remained completely forgotten, nobody missed it.

The new administration of the cultural center, because of the complicated bureaucracy, continued to keep the radio in ether. My friend was in charge, so he let me to make play lists instead of him. At the beginning I was going there every day, bringing a huge amount of new and different music. The next task was to form a good program scheme, to look for a young talented people that might be interested to fill full a program by their original radio shows. There was no money in the budget, but neither the censure. The radio was still forgotten by the suits, but the young urban people knew very well which frequency to find on FM scale and not to change it.

The music was different of any other music that could be heard on radio or tv that days. Internet was still no developed like today so the appearance of an underground media made an echo in the teenager’s heads.

Surrounded by a huge number of talented musicians, DJs, producers… I had a support to present to the public all new that happened on the music scene. That was the time when each new music genre was experienced with great excitement. People soaked everything… dnb, trip hop, techno, hard core, reggae, hip hop...

Very soon, the whole movement expanded through the clubs. The people wanted to hear all those new thing and that was the beginning of my DJ career. I played big beat, abstract hip hop, jungle. Those were the good times, and I was on the right place.

During the next years the SKC radio was no more invisible, and the administration of the Cultural center became greedy. They saw a potential source of income, and the whole thing culminated by another political change and by new manager that closed SKC radio on 2005.

The next few years after the closure of the radio, I was working as a program director in a few clubs. As a DJ I was a resident in almost all important clubs in the city. I played new skool breaks, later bmore... But very early I started to follow what happened on a global bass scene. Balkan beat, baile funk, kuduro... That was the new thing that I was expecting. I started to put my mixtapes on the net (soundcloud.com/government4000)and people reacted very positively. I made a connection with friends in Ljubljana (Tito DJ and Admiral Rah) with whom I organize Favela Blast-Off club nights (mixcloud.com/favelablastoff), and together with “neki stranac” (soundcloud.com/neki-stranac) from shazalakazoo (soundcloud.com/shazalakazoo) soon we’ll start the first global ghettotech night in Belgrade.
