Das autonome Krankenhaus in San José del Rio (Chiapas/MEX) braucht ein neues Dach!
San José del Río liegt im Grenzgebiet des mexikanischen Bundesstaates Chiapas zu Guatemala im Urwald der Selva Lacandona. Das Dorf besteht aus etwa 40 Familien und zählt zu den zapatistischen Unterstützungsgemeinden. Seit 1994 fordert die indigene Bevölkerung in Chiapas die Anerkennung ihrer Rechte und Kultur. In den vergangenen Jahren setzten die aufständischen Indígenas ihre Vorstellungen von Autonomie um, formten mit den „Räten der Guten Regierung" ein System der Selbstregierung nach indigenen Traditionen und schufen ein autonomes Bildungs- und Gesundheitssystem. Während der Besuch eines Arztes für die indigene Bevölkerung und schon die Reisekosten zum nächsten Spital der Regierung unerschwinglich waren, verfügen sämtliche zapatistische Dörfer heute über so genannte „Mikrokliniken", wo ärztliche Konsultation und die Behandlung der häufigsten Krankheiten auf unentgeltlicher Basis erfolgen.
Das autonome Spital von San José del Río wurde 1997 mit Spendengeldern aus Europa errichtet. Das junge Team indigener Ärzte kann stolz auf ein modernes Labor, mehrere Krankenzimmer und eine gut ausgerüstete Apotheke verweisen.
Leider hat sich die Dachkonstruktion des Spitals als unzulänglich erwiesen. Die imprägnierende Farbschicht am Dach des Gebäudes wurde durch die extreme Witterung – große Hitze im Sommer und stürmischer Regen im Winter – bereits schwer in Mitleidenschaft gezogen, und die Betondecke weist in einigen Zimmern Schimmelbefall auf. Da die medizinische Behandlung unentgeltlich erfolgt und auch die Medikamente zum Selbstkostenpreis abgegeben werden, reichten die finanziellen Mittel gerade aus, um die beiden wichtigsten Räume, OP und Labor, mit einem Blechdach zu schützen.
Mit den Einnahmen dieser Benefizveranstaltung sollen auch die Krankenzimmer mit einem neuen, regenfesten Dach versehen werden.
